HEADWAY - NATAL WAS ESTABLISHED ON THE FOLLOWING MISSION STATEMENT:
A non - profit organization assisting victims of Stroke and Brain Injury and those caring for them.
It is on this statement that we have been able to assist patients and their families, on the road to recovery.
NECESSITY FOR OUR EXISTENCE.
- The Brain Injured person is a changed person - there may be paralysis, loss of memory, sight, speech and a change of personality. The demands on the carer are enormous.
- Adjustments needed are progressive, as improvements can take place over several years.
- Carer and patient may become socially isolated.
OUR AIMS.
- To provide information and support for people who have suffered a brain injury
- To increase public awareness and understanding of Brain Injury
- To promote co-ordinated multidisciplinary approaches to Brain Injury screening, acute care, assessment, rehabilitation and community re-entry, with clear accountability at all stages.
HISTORY.
Headway originated in the UK in the 1960's and was started in Natal in 1981. Branches of Headway exist in most major centers in South Africa
LOCATION.
Headway Natal is situated in in central Westville. Headway House was donated by our generous sponsor Pick 'n Pay. It was through their support that in 1998 we were able to move to our current premises and establish Headway House.
